Set in Chicago, historically the epicenter of American neoliberalism, Spooner’s new work challenges prevalent notions of performance and resists what can be measured, managed, and performed to perfection. Rather, she focuses on those moments when the performance is over and the camera continues to roll: a moment of leaky unexpectedness, breakdown, and failure—essentially, moments where life actually happens and cannot be controlled. As such, Spooner’s crime-novel-turned-performance unfolds over the course of seven days as a continuous live/life form, alternating the action between onstage and backstage and bringing in the different protagonists to solve the age-old question: whodunit?
